Post Graduation Work Permit: How to Work in Canada After Graduation
As a popular destination for studying, Canada has consistently been chosen by international students for its safe, inclusive environment and high quality of life. Before you apply for post-secondary education in Canada, it is important to consider the option of working within the country post-graduation. From beautiful landscapes to competitive wages, there are many reasons why people choose to experience Canada beyond their time at school.
Canada makes working post-graduation possible with its Post Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) program. As an international student who chooses to study in Canada (at select institutions), you may be eligible to work up to three years following your period of study. If you want to achieve permanent residency within Canada, working under this permit program can make it easier for you to immigrate into the country.
Not all institutions offer PGWP
It is very important that you confirm – BEFORE you apply – whether or not your desired institution of study offers the opportunity for a Post Graduation Work Permit.
To confirm, please refer yourself to this link that lists, by province, the institutions that are approved and not approved for a Post Graduation Work Permit.
If your desired school is approved for a Post Graduation Work Permit and you are intending to work in Canada after graduation, it’s recommended that you proceed with that school (rather than a school that does not offer the opportunity for a Post Graduation Work Permit).
If your desired school is not approved for a post-graduation work permit and you are intending to work in Canada after graduation, it is not recommended that you apply to that school.
