Held at the gorgeous Leela Ambience Hotel in Delhi, India, ApplyBoard hosted its annual Top Recruiters Workshop event on June 14 and 15, 2022, following a two-year hiatus. The event united international education industry professionals for two days packed with learning, networking, and fun.

More than 1,000 study abroad professionals, including select recruitment partners and representatives from 37 schools in Canada, the United States, and the United Kingdom, joined industry leaders in-person to share key trends and international recruitment insights. The connections made at the event were especially significant after more than two years of virtual engagements.

Diverse Opportunity for a Global Future

This year’s theme, Diverse Opportunity for a Global Future, reflected the true connectedness, equality, and forward-thinking mindset that’s ingrained in our shared goal of helping students achieve their study abroad dreams.

TRW’s many learnings and conversations reaffirmed that tomorrow’s leaders deserve to benefit from support systems which give everyone equal access to a high-quality global education focused on technology, transparency, and trust.

Ultimately, it’s all about helping students achieve success. As guest speaker Dr. Prachi Kaul, Director of the Shastri Indo-Canadian Institute, shared at the event:

“It’s important to remain mindful of how we recruit students who wish to study in Canada or any other country of their choice, if we want to see them succeed in achieving their study abroad dream!”

Partner Schools

This was an industry-defining event, with presentations by more than 30 top schools from Canada, the United Kingdom, and the United States. Featured schools included Yorkville University, Conestoga College, St. Clair College, Algoma University, and Western Community College, among many others.

Representatives from each partner school had the opportunity to discuss their unique campus and program offerings, future outlooks, and how they each plan to harness the still-growing potential of international recruitment.

In addition to presentations from ApplyBoard partner schools and industry leaders, attendees also benefitted by connecting with government officials and developing new strategies for international recruitment. The event also featured exciting prize draws, catered meals, and an exquisite gala dinner with live entertainment.

Even through a worldwide pandemic, we’ve come a long way since our first TRW event in 2019!

Recruitment Partners

The importance of recruitment partners in a student’s study abroad journey was a central topic at TRW. Aside from their crucial role in guiding students through the often-complex application process, recruitment partners are mentors, teachers, and advocates for students as they embark on one of the greatest journeys of their lives.

Recruitment partners are career counselors and subject matter experts, providing key insight into the systems, expectations, and cultural norms of a destination country. They’re invaluable resources, assisting the student with visa requirements, finding accommodations, and meeting their chosen institution’s specific requirements. And they even provide emotional support, helping students find their confidence in unsure moments.

A Brief Overview

Thanks to the efforts of our hardworking Events Team, TRW was high-energy and high-impact from start to end!

The excitement in the air was palpable as guests and speakers arrived, eager to connect. ApplyBoard Co-Founder and CEO Martin Basiri delivered some energetic opening remarks, and Cameron MacKay, High Commissioner of Canada in India, gave an uplifting keynote speech.

A wide variety of panels, presentations, and breakout sessions followed over the next two days, led by partner institutions, honoured guest speakers, and experienced ApplyBoard leaders.

Day two started with a keynote speech from Martin, followed by a deep-dive into ApplyBoard’s many exciting services, from our Application Tracking System to the cutting-edge Canadian Visa Calculator. We were then honoured to have the exceptional Naina Lal Kidwai, Chairman of the Advent India Advisory Board, deliver an inspiring closing keynote focused on adapting to change. The event finished with closing remarks from Martin and Meti Basiri, followed by an incredible gala dinner.

Takeaways

Here are just a few of the takeaways gleaned from #TRW2022:

  • With career paths constantly evolving, international students shouldn’t be afraid to pursue more modern “outside the box” study programs in dynamic new fields.
  • Bigger isn’t always better. Small communities are home to excellent higher education institutions which can offer students a lower cost of living, a tighter-knit community, and more one-on-one time with faculty and peers.
  • An incredible 1 in 4 international students who came to Canada from South Asia in 2022 did so through ApplyBoard.
