Ready to get started? Follow this step-by-step guide to learn about and apply to study programs that match your criteria.
1. Search for Programs
Go to the student search by clicking “Students” on the top menu bar of ApplyBoard’s homepage.
Then, fill in a field of study (like “Chemistry”) or a specific program (like “Biochemistry and Molecular Biology”) and your country of choice. If you change your mind, don’t worry! You can change your choices later. For now, click “Start Your Journey” to move on.
2. Find Your Program
On the next screen, you’ll see the field of study you chose and some dropdown buttons which can filter your search results.
You can customize your search by:
- Destination: Filter results by the state or province and/or city the institution is located in
- Institution: Search for programs offered by specific academic institutions
- Program Level: Filter by primary/secondary, language classes, or post-secondary study
- Field of Study: Add more fields of study (helpful for double degrees or interdisciplinary studies)
- Intakes: Filter available programs by when you’d like to start classes
- Program Tag: Special filters designed by ApplyBoard, ranging from “Scholarships Available” to “Fast Acceptance” (institutions who process applications quickly)
Once you’ve set up your search filters, you can sort the results by our custom Best Match guide, tuition cost, or application fee cost.
3. Review Your Options
Programs are presented in easy-to-read cards, featuring program and institution page links at the top. The cards also include the program’s location, length, yearly tuition, and application fees:
You’ll also see a “success prediction” table for different intakes. ApplyBoard uses historic data to estimate how likely your acceptance will be for each upcoming intake. Depending on whether you’re using our platform as a guest or are logged in, prediction rates may vary. If you’re logged in and have completed your student profile, that information is used to better predict success rates.
Once you’ve found a program you love, click “Create application” at the bottom of the card to start your application!
4. Sign in and Review Your Program Info
To submit an application, you’ll need to log in or register with ApplyBoard first. It’s free to use, and you can sign up with your email address, Google account, or Facebook account.
Once you’re logged in, you’ll be sent to the program page. It has more information about class intakes, admission requirements, and available scholarships. Here’s an example:
5. Check Your Eligibility
If you haven’t completed your user profile yet, you’ll be guided through some questions. ApplyBoard uses your answers to check your eligibility for the program you’re interested in.
6. Update Your Information
Before you move on, ensure your student profile is up-to-date. To get there, click on the icon labelled “Profile” on the left menu bar:
You’ll need to complete each of the four sections: general profile, education history, test scores, and visa or study permit information.
Make sure your ApplyBoard student profile is clear and complete by using our step-by-step guide.
7. Complete any Application Requirements
Once you’ve completed your profile, click on “My Applications” in the left menu bar to return to your application-in-progress. You might have multiple applications on-the-go, so be sure to select the right one. Click on the program name to return to the program page. Then, click on the blue “Apply Now” button to the right of the program summary to move to the next step.
Because every program is different, you must complete different requirements before you can submit your application. The requirements may include uploading documents like your academic transcripts, diplomas, or proof of finances, or filling out a questionnaire. Here’s an example of some real requirements:
Tip: Ensure that all documents can be easily read, translated if necessary, and in the correct file format.
Once you’ve completed the requirements, click “Create application” to move on.
8. Pay For and Submit Your Application
Under “My Applications,” you can pay for your application and submit it.
To ensure your application is as strong as possible, the platform will share warning messages or block the payment process until you’ve included all the necessary pieces, as you can see below:
9. Application Review and Results
Once you submit your paid application, the team at ApplyBoard will share it with the academic institution. Application turnaround time can vary from a couple of hours to a couple of weeks depending on the time of year, program, and institution.
If you’re approved, you can continue your study abroad preparations! Next steps can include applying for a student visa or starting to look for student housing.
Tip: It’s smart to apply for a few different programs, so even if you’re not accepted for your top choice, you have a couple of options for the same intake.
