ApplyBoard Creates Pathway for Students in Ukraine to Study in Canada

On March 3, 2022, Sean Fraser, Canada’s Minister of Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship, announced a new immigration and study permit pathway for Ukrainian students fleeing conflict in their home country. This includes the prioritization of study permit applications and study permit application fee waivers for Ukrainian citizens. ApplyBoard will also waive program application fees for all Ukrainian citizens and any non-Ukrainian citizens currently undertaking studies in Ukraine.

The waiving of application fees has been established to simplify the journey for students looking for safety in Canada. It will act as a complimentary initiative to the Government of Canada’s efforts to help and support those fleeing the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.

“It is painful to watch the conflict hurting so many people physically, mentally, and economically, and we welcome the Government of Canada’s leadership in developing a new pathway for students to come to Canada amidst this tragic situation,” said Martin Basiri, Co-Founder and CEO of ApplyBoard. “We want to make it simple for students to transition their studies to Canada with a new sense of safety, security, and hope.”

Eligibility

ApplyBoard’s initiative is aimed at helping Ukrainian students manage their transition to studies in Canada, but is also open to anyone currently undertaking studies in Ukraine. This includes the tens of thousands of international students who were enrolled in Ukrainian post-secondary institutions at the time the conflict began.

It is important to note that those students with post-secondary studies in progress will need to work with their desired institution in Canada to recognize prior work and credits.
