Why Verification Matters

A lack of trust in international student documents affects study permit outcomes and enrolment conversion. It also creates delays in admissions and visa processing.

Recurring reports of fraud can weaken confidence in institutions, and in a destination’s wider international education brand.

Recognizing the need to strengthen trust and efficiency, ApplyBoard treats verification as core infrastructure. We are a technology marketplace and infrastructure layer, not a policymaker or an immigration authority. Our role is to bring visibility, verification, and accountability to a fragmented sector, so the work protecting an institution’s pipeline is something it can see.

How Verification Works

The platform helps confirm three of the documents that matter most in admissions and study permit decisions:

Verified Letters of Acceptance

ApplyBoard helps officials confirm the validity of letters of acceptance (LOAs) submitted for study permit applications. A verifiable letter can be checked against its digital original in seconds. Officials compare the submitted document against the source, with no account or login required.

ApplyBoard has built a network of institutions across Canada and made over 600,000 LOAs verifiable to date.

Proof of Financial Support

Financial documents are among the most important, and most scrutinized, parts of a study permit application. ApplyBoard has teamed up with RBC to offer Canada’s first digitally verifiable Guaranteed Investment Certificates (GICs). GICs are among the most trusted documents students can use to show proof of financial support as part of their study permit application. The Student Direct Stream (SDS) closed in November 2024. All applicants now apply through the regular study permit stream, which still accepts a GIC as proof of funds. A verifiable GIC lets officials confirm those funds are genuine and current.

ApplyBoard has also partnered with Flywire, one of the most trusted names in the international transfer of funds, to enable students to make digitally verifiable tuition payments. Tuition payments made through Flywire come with immediate, official, and verifiable payment receipts, which can then be submitted with a student’s study permit application as proof they’ve paid their tuition. To date, students have made over C$6 million in tuition payments verifiable on ApplyProof.

Did you know? 47% of refusals in a sample of 1,370 Canadian study permit letters came down to money paperwork. These students could not clearly prove their funds. Many likely had the money, but not in a form a visa officer could trust.¹

Verified Language Test Scores

Language proficiency scores can be confirmed directly with the test provider. When students include their results, admissions officers and officials can validate the official scores in seconds.
Up until July 2026,, ApplyBoard has cleared 20,711 English Language Proficiency (ELP) validations by checking directly with the test provider.

Document Forensics and Identity Checks

Beyond confirming source documents, the platform inspects each file for signs of tampering. A document checker reviews every attachment for metadata changes, image tampering, and structural anomalies. Plagiarism and cloning filters read statements of purpose and resumes, screening for AI-generated or duplicated content. Identity checks cross-reference passport details against a student’s academic documents to surface any mismatch.

Stopping Fraud Before It Reaches Your Desk

Verification is only half the story. The platform is also built to catch irregularities early. AI-enabled detection, automation, and clear governance flag suspicious files before they are submitted
In the last six months, ApplyBoard’s fraud-detection engines caught 130 suspected bad-actor files before submission. Over the same period, we recorded and reviewed 3,125 AI-assisted credibility interviews. When a document or applicant does not appear bona fide, the application can be stopped.

Each recorded interview runs multiple checks. Impersonation detection matches the live video against the applicant’s passport. The tool also screens for third-party voice and analyzes eye contact. It measures how closely answers align with the student’s statement of purpose. A low identity match or misaligned answers flag the file early.
