Using the webform below, complete the online application to open a TD Student Chequing Account and GIC. Once you have successfully submitted the application and completed the ID verification process, you will receive information about your TD Student Chequing Account and wire transfer instructions.
Send an International Wire Payment
To fund your TD Student Chequing Account, send your first wire payment minimum of CAD $20,635 plus incoming wire payment fee. This wire must be received by TD within 90 days of account opening.
After your first wire payment is successfully received by TD, you may send additional wire payments of any amount to your TD Student Chequing Account until you arrive in Canada.
Make sure to account for any wire transfer fees charged at source from your originating bank, exchange rates (if applicable) and the fee charged for incoming wires, outlined in the TD Service Fee Schedule in our About our Accounts and related services document.
Fund Your TD International Student GIC
Once TD receives your wire payment, CAD $20,635 will be invested in a TD International Student GIC. Any additional funds will remain in your TD Student Chequing Account.
You’ll receive the Confirmation of Investment for your TD GIC through the ApplyProof Platform, where you can access and download your verifiable Confirmation of Investment (COI) document. This serves as proof of your investment, and includes relevant details about your GIC.
With this document, you can then complete and submit your Student Direct Stream (SDS) study permit application.
Book an In-Branch Appointment for Verification and First GIC Payout
Once you’ve arrived in Canada to begin your studies, book an appointment at one of TD’s 1,000+ branches to verify your identity, sign the required documentation, and activate your accounts.
TD will then redeem the sum of CAD $4,635 (plus any accrued interest) from your GIC, and deposit it into your TD Student Chequing Account.
The remaining funds will be redeemed in accordance with the GIC Payment Schedule in the amount of $1,600 over the subsequent 10 months.
