The Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Biology program is intended for those who want to have a role in communicating biology and biological concepts to others. Students will gain an experience through hands-on learning as the following:
- Courses incorporate hands-on lab sessions, tutorials and seminars.
- Students may complete one or more field courses as part of their program; approximately 30 are offered each year through the Ontario Universities’ Program in Field Biology.
- Faculty hire students as research assistants to help in the lab and field.
- Capstone experiences through honours theses and directed studies are built around research with a faculty mentor.
- Approximately half of the courses offered which include labs that explore a variety of technical and analytical methods in the lab and field.
- Third- and fourth-year students may be hired as instructional assistants to work in teaching labs.
This program will prepare students for careers such as law, education, teaching, public policy or science journalism.
Management Option:
The fundamentals of business are at the heart of any organization and many careers. While students complete their degree in an Arts, Economics, Science or Music program, the Management Option will provide them with an understanding of the core principles of the business world, including accounting, marketing, human resources, operations, policy, and finance. They will take courses such as Understanding the Business Environment; Introduction to Financial Accounting; Introduction to Microeconomics or Macroeconomics; and Statistics.
