Nutrition may be the major for students who are passionate about health, and interested in how the food people eat can prevent and treat illness and disease and they want to help people live better, healthier lives by understanding how nutrients interact with the human body.
One of Utica University’s newest majors, Nutrition is an interdisciplinary science that requires an understanding of food production, consumption, and utilization. Students will experience relevant and exciting challenges in their pursuit of success and rewarding careers, including opportunities to conduct research or pursue an internship in the field of nutrition. The university's distinctive, active learning approach promotes scholarship and social awareness.
Students in the program will follow a science-based Nutrition curriculum for the first four years, including courses in biology, chemistry, anatomy and physiology, and all facets of the practice of dietetics. Provided all academic standards are met, students in the major will then be eligible to move directly into the one-year supervised practice (internship), located in the greater Utica University area. Those who successfully complete both the academic and practical components of the program will be eligible to take the national certification exam to become a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist.
