About Master of Arts (Honours) - History and Archaeology (VV1K)

The Master of Arts in History and Archaeology program offers students the opportunity to pursue specialized studies in history, combined with the unique insights and methodologies of archaeology. The University of Edinburgh has a strong tradition in both history and archaeology, boasting excellent collections of printed and material artifacts to support intensive study in these fields.

The program places a strong emphasis on practical archaeological skills training. Students will have the chance to gain hands-on experience in artifact identification and analysis during practical sessions, utilizing artifacts from the esteemed Vere Gordon Childe collection.

Upon completing the first year of the program, students will engage in three weeks of archaeological fieldwork, with the option to participate in additional fieldwork opportunities.

In the later years of study, students will also have the opportunity to take part in projects related to heritage management and public engagement, as well as engage in lab-based analysis of archaeological remains.
