About Master of Arts (Honours) - Scottish Ethnology and Archaeology (VV94)

Scotland's past can be uncovered and its future shaped through the innovative joint honors program offered. Participants in this program will acquire skills that are applicable to any culture, making it a valuable opportunity. The program combines two distinct approaches to the study of human cultures, both past and present.

The discipline of ethnology focuses on the study of culture and traditions in developed societies. It is often seen as the intersection between history and anthropology. While ethnology is commonly taught in universities across Europe, this undergraduate program is the only one of its kind available in the UK.

In addition to the ethnology component of the program, which explores the recent past and present, students will also delve into archaeology to gain a deeper understanding of the past. The courses offered will equip students with a range of skills in interpreting social and cultural change, complementing their ethnology studies.
