About Master of Arts (Honours) - German and English Literature (RQ23)

German is spoken by more people as their native language than any other in Europe, and it holds the position of being the third most popular foreign language taught worldwide. Throughout history, the cultures of both English and German-speaking societies have exerted a significant international influence on literature.

The objective of this joint honors program is to cultivate critical, analytical, linguistic, and creative skills by engaging with a wide range of texts in both English and German, employing various approaches to reading.

Through intensive language training, which includes a year spent abroad, participants will have the opportunity to acquire professional skills in all aspects of the German language, encompassing writing, speaking, presenting, and translating.

Situated in the first United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization World City of Literature, students will be studying in the oldest English Literature department in the UK, which is also among the most established in the world.

By undertaking this program, individuals will develop the essential skills necessary for the critical analysis of poetry, drama, and prose, while also exploring the cultural contexts of English writing from the late Middle Ages to the present.
