The LSU School of Art offers a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Studio Art with concentrations in ceramics, painting & drawing, photography, printmaking, and sculpture. Each concentration includes coursework in art history.
Students in these programs develop the skills to work both independently and collaboratively, while also gaining the ability to critique and discuss their own work and that of their peers. They learn to think critically, solve creative problems, and effectively communicate. By studying studio art, design, art history, contemporary art theory, and liberal arts and sciences, students acquire the knowledge and philosophical foundations needed to make their art and design practices relevant to current issues.
With a strong foundation in artistic, technical, and conceptual skills, students are prepared to pursue advanced studies in graduate school or pursue careers as independent studio artists or professionals in various fields such as film, video, computer graphics, game design, web design, typography, print and editorial design, information design, digital imaging, packaging, and environmental design. Graduates are equipped to creatively address issues of value and meaning in their work and lives.
The concentration in Ceramics within the Bachelor of Fine Arts in Studio Art program offers an in-depth exploration of ceramic materials, historical influences, and contemporary applications in visual art. The curriculum covers various techniques such as wheel-throwing, hand-building, slip-casting, tile-making, raw material study, studio practice, methodology development, and special topics classes. Additionally, seminars are included to enhance critical thinking through writing, presentations, and critiques.
