This vocational course will enable students to develop their own creative screenwriting practice and an extensive portfolio of work in preparation for a career as a screenwriter.
Students will be based in the Northern Film School and will work alongside production courses and be taught via lectures, seminars, tutorials, talks, discussions and screenings. They will be supported as they work on self-directed projects and writing exercises. They will be encouraged to explore their own creative potential and test their ideas across a range of platforms including film and television, and they will develop an understanding and appreciation of the impact of new technologies on the industry.
They will be introduced to a wide range of ideas from industry which will inform and inspire their development as a writer as they gain a thorough grounding in key concepts and concerns of screenwriting for a range of screen media. This course will emphasize the creation of new ideas through provocation, stimulation and inspiration. They will be paired with a mentor for their final project which will replicate professional practice by encouraging them to develop a script in response to a client’s needs.
This course is scheduled to start in Autumn / Winter 2020 in the new Leeds School of Arts building based at our City Campus. Should there be any delays or changes to this schedule, the delivery of some, or all modules for this course, may take place in existing facilities at our Headingly and City Campuses.
