Start on the path to becoming a chartered engineer and have an impact on the design, construction and maintenance of the world around.
Mathematics will underpin everything learners do in engineering, so it will play a key role in their learning. The BEng (Hons) Civil Engineering course will also build students' understanding of structures, hydraulics, geotechnical engineering, management, health, safety and welfare, surveying, materials science and sustainable development.
This degree is accredited by the Joint Board of Moderators (JBM) comprising the Institution of Civil Engineers, Institution of Structural Engineers, Institute of Highway Engineers, and the Chartered Institution of Highways and Transportation on behalf of the Engineering Council as:
- Fully satisfying the educational base for an Incorporated Engineer (IEng).
- Partially satisfying the educational base for a Chartered Engineer (CEng).
Students will understand how civil engineering works and know how to use this knowledge to solve structural problems. This undergraduate course offers the opportunity to take a ‘sandwich’ year – a year of paid employment in industry which will build skills and experience.
This Civil Engineering bachelor's will nurture students' ability to manage, work in team environments and play a leading role in this industry. They'll develop a flair for communication, problem solving and project management, knowing what's needed to investigate and evaluate different engineering situations. They'll look at using materials in new ways, the principles of experimental design, and the engineering behind roads, bridges and other major structures.
