Students can build on their successes in the Bachelor of Biomedicine by completing Honours to enhance essential employability skills or take their first step to a career in research, academia and beyond.
Students will conduct their own research project under the mentorship of La Trobe University's expert researchers, building on the knowledge and accomplishments obtained in their Bachelor's degree, and gaining exposure to cutting-edge techniques and scientific advances.
Honours in Biomedicine gives students the opportunity to specialize in the following disciplines:
- animal physiology and health
- agriculture
- biochemistry and cell biology
- chemistry
- environment and genetics
- human anatomy, physiology and pharmacology
- microbiology
Projects are located at the Melbourne and Albury-Wodonga La Trobe University campuses and at external research institutes such as the Baker Institute and Olivia Newton-John Cancer Research Institute.
By completing Honours, students will be able to demonstrate in-depth knowledge in their field and, through their professional behaviors, the values that shape the work of a professional scientist. They will also have advanced skills in designing and successfully implementing scientific investigations, analyzing and interpreting data, and presenting their findings to scientific audiences. Students will also gain an edge in an increasingly competitive job market, have the opportunity to advance to further coursework or research at Masters level or, for outstanding achievers, direct entry into a PhD.
