International Year One (2-Semester Pathway) Transfer to Bachelor of Arts - French/German

The International Year program will provide you with the solid foundation you need to be successful in your university degree. Offered as a one, two, or three quarter program, you will study a range of subjects to develop your language and study skills, while focusing on your chosen field. After successfully completing your International Year, you will be able to progress to your undergraduate degree at Western.

The study of both French and German becomes a meeting place for true diversity. Integrating these multifaceted programs provides an opening to the world through a wide range of courses.

The French studies program is designed to help students develop a solid grammar and vocabulary base that allows students to become effective communicators with an equal emphasis on cultural awareness. The department emphasizes the diversity and multicultural aspects of the Francophone (French speaking) world through civilization, culture, literature and sociolinguistic courses. The German program offers a wide range of courses in language, literature, culture, drama, film, and linguistics and the opportunity to learn about and appreciate Germanic societies, cultures, and artistic expressions.
