International Year One (2-Semester Pathway) Transfer to Bachelor of Arts - Education - General Science - Secondary

The International Year program will provide you with the solid foundation you need to be successful in your university degree. Offered as a one, two, or three quarter program, you will study a range of subjects to develop your language and study skills, while focusing on your chosen field. After successfully completing your International Year, you will be able to progress to your undergraduate degree at Western.

General Science is a broad base of knowledge in the field of science, with preparation for teaching at the secondary level. Students study a range of introductory courses from different areas of science, including biology, chemistry, physics, and geology.

Western’s Science, Mathematics, and Technology Education Program (SMATE) is a visionary and practical program designed to enrich the training and education of K-12 pre-service teachers and, through them, their students. From a collaboration of the disciplines, chemistry, geology, biology, physics/astronomy, mathematics and engineering, the SMATE Program offers an opportunity for teachers and future teachers to gain specific skills within their chosen discipline. 

This program is designed to prepare future teachers at the middle school and secondary level with an emphasis in Science. The major must be accompanied by the professional preparation program in secondary education offered through Woodring College of Education.
