About Combined Degree - Bachelor of Business Administration (Honours) & Bachelor of Arts (Honours) - International Relations (EO)

Program Description

Unlike traditional business schools that expect students to choose a specialization early on, the 2+2 program structure of the Ivey Honours of Business Administration (HBA) offers students the freedom to explore their academic interests before choosing their career options. In the first two years, students can study in any faculty or program. This opportunity to gain new life experiences ensures that HBA students and their classmates bring diverse and more seasoned perspectives to their business education. The combination of a deep knowledge of business and another academic or professional field makes for a strong career foundation. Students can apply their first two years of university study at Western to two degrees.

Students in this program will have the option to complete a four year Honours Bachelor of Business Administration or to complete a combined degree with an Honours Bachelor of Business Administration (HBA) or to study for five years and combine the HBA with an Honours Bachelor of Arts. While in their first year at Ivey (HBA 1), students will apply for one of the combined degree programs. If admitted, they will spend their fourth and fifth years of university studying a combination of business courses and required courses in their second degree area. In five years, they will have completed two degrees.

International relations have had a profound impact on the world in which we live. While international relations sometimes seem remote and rarified - diplomats sending dispatches to their home governments and summit meetings between heads of government - they are a part of people's daily consciousness and experience. Canadian peacekeepers in Afghanistan; global warming; nuclear weapons testing in North Korea; global initiatives to combat HIV/AIDS; earthquakes in South America; the World Wide Web; spring break in the Dominican Republic; SARS; the dizzying price of filling a gas tank: in the 21st century people around the world are connected in so many ways. These kinds of connections have long existed - although not always in such an instantaneous or intensive way - in an international environment marked by conflict, cooperation, and change.

The Honours Specialization in International Relations examines the connections between peoples and states in historical and contemporary contexts. It is an interdisciplinary program - unique in Canada - between Political Science and History. It is also a rigorous program for high achieving students. The study of international relations prepares students for careers in the field of international relations, including international development, international law, foreign affairs reporting, and the foreign service.

The Departments of History and Political Science have established an Honours Specialization in International Relations. Entry will normally occur at the beginning of the student's second year.

NOTE: Please note the English scores listed are minimum requirements. Meeting the minimums does not guarantee admission. Students with low English scores may be admitted to the English BOOST Program, a 9 week training program for conditional admission to their chosen program.
