About Combined Degree - Bachelor of Business Administration (Honours) & Bachelor of Arts (Honours) - Art History and Museum Studies (EA)
Program Description
Unlike traditional business schools that expect students to choose a specialization early on, the 2+2 program structure of the Ivey Honours of Business Administration (HBA) offers students the freedom to explore their academic interests before choosing their career options. In the first two years, students can study in any faculty or program. This opportunity to gain new life experiences ensures that HBA students and their classmates bring diverse and more seasoned perspectives to their business education. The combination of a deep knowledge of business and another academic or professional field makes for a strong career foundation. Students can apply their first two years of university study at Western to two degrees.
Students in this program will have the option to complete a four year Honours Bachelor of Business Administration or to complete a combined degree with an Honours Bachelor of Business Administration (HBA) or to study for five years and combine the HBA with an Honours Bachelor of Arts. While in their first year at Ivey (HBA 1), students will apply for one of the combined degree programs. If admitted, they will spend their fourth and fifth years of university studying a combination of business courses and required courses in their second degree area. In five years, they will have completed two degrees.
The Department of Visual Arts at Western University offers three areas of study: Art History; Museum and Curatorial Studies; & Studio Art. Students will learn in small classrooms and gain hands-on experience in their chosen field. In addition to lectures, seminars, and studio courses, these programs are complemented by experiential learning opportunities including practicums, internships, and field trips to art galleries, museums, heritage sites, and cultural institutions.
Study art and visual culture in its social and political context. Western’s Art History program focuses on global networks of cultural exchange and is committed to interdisciplinary approaches informed by critical theory. This field of study develops cross-cultural understanding and a global perspective from the Renaissance and Baroque eras, in Mesoamerican, Hispanic American, Canadian, and Contemporary Art, Architecture, and Design, as well as Photography, Film and New Media.
Museum Studies combines experiential learning, practical experience such as internships, and skill building, with seminars and lectures dedicated to understanding museums as complex social and cultural institutions. It is unique in the way that it encourages a combination of practical skills, creativity, historical knowledge, and critical thinking. Classes taught by award-winning faculty are complemented by field trips to museums, galleries, and heritage sites, and by major curatorial projects led by students.
