Globalization is here to stay and the number of active international industries continues to grow each year. The LLM in International Commercial Law is a specialist legal course which will develop students' understanding of the nature of international commercial law and regulation. It is suitable for individuals already working in the legal sector, as well as those looking to increase their knowledge in this area.
Students can study the aspects of commercial law that have an international relevance, and consider specific issues that arise in commercial and consumer law. They'll also explore different aspects of globalization and how the law influences and responds to these.
Outside of term time learners will have the opportunity to volunteer in the University’s Legal and Financial Advice Clinic. There they'll have the chance to put the knowledge and skills they have gained on the course into practice. The Clinic will allow students to engage directly with the legal profession, and work with a number of reputable law firms.
To achieve this specialist LLM course, students will study compulsory modules such as Law of Obligations, Research Methods and Frameworks of International and European Law designed to provide them with a firm foundation to complete their studies. They'll also be able to select a further two optional modules to complement their studies and legal interests.
The course is taught through lectures, workshops, tutorials and self-directed learning. Tuition is offered in small, friendly groups, which allow for detailed, individual support of the studies. USW aims to foster a supportive learning environment, which enables students to enjoy their studies and progress to their future career options.
Students will be taught by leading experts who will use the latest innovative ‘SIMple software’ teaching tools and virtual learning environments to share their knowledge and expertise. Moreover, USW works with a range of national law firms including Hugh James, Eversheds, Capital Law, Clarks Legal, Geldards, NewLaw and Howells to provide placement opportunities.
This course will give students the knowledge and skills to pursue a career in international law firms, international banking and other sectors of the economy.
