Criminology:

Criminology involves the scientific analysis of crime, of the criminalization process, and of social control. Criminology is also an applied discipline in which students explore various forms of intervention to help resolve problems and conflicts. It focuses on five broad phenomena: the nature and dynamics of behavior that contravenes social norms; the social construction of norms and of the notion of crime; the criminalization of specific behaviors; individuals and groups in social relations; the goals and workings of the criminal justice system; and contemporary forms of intervention.

Feminist and Gender Studies:

The Institute of Feminist and Gender Studies offers students exciting interdisciplinary undergraduate and graduate programs that explore women, gender and feminisms. University of Ottawa’s teaching and research deal with hot button issues such as globalization, transnationalism, sexualities, colonialism and racism. Courses blend scientific, theoretical and practical knowledge that contributes toward intellectual development and collective efforts for social justice.

French Immersion:

The University of Ottawa’s French Immersion Stream is designed for Anglophone and Allophone students who wish to pursue part of their university studies in French. Students who have attended high school in a language other than French and have followed a French-as-a-second-language program are eligible. The French Immersion program allows students to study bilingually by taking 35% of their courses in French and discover le monde francophone at world’s largest French-English university. Immersion courses will help students transition to French courses, by combining a three hour content course with a one and a half hour accompanying language course that is based on material in the content course but focused on comprehension skills. Students also have the choice to take up to eight French courses as Pass/Fail grades, which won't count in their academic average (not available in the Faculty of Science or Faculty of Engineering).
