Program Description

At University of Liverpool, students will receive a general grounding in all aspects of Irish Studies. They will explore Irish identity and society from a number of perspectives including the historical, the linguistic, the literary and its material culture. Students then have the opportunity to choose modules in order to specialize in a specific area.

Whilst the perfection of language skills is at the heart of modern languages degrees in Liverpool, all the degrees demand a full intellectual engagement with a wide selection of areas in German studies. Liverpool researches and teaches German history, culture, literature and film from the 19th to 21st centuries, linguistics and translation, and much more. Students will spend one year in a German-speaking country as an assistant in a school, as a student at a university or on a work placement.
