Program Description
Get ready to launch a career in news or entertainment or other media industries. Learn how the media operate and their role and impact in our society. Discover how changing technology alters existing media and creates new forms and how rewarding media production can be. Enhance your skills in producing messages for a variety of media outlets along with skills in analysis and critique of media.
Learning Outcomes:
- Students will demonstrate the ability to write effectively in a variety of formats used in the field of communication.
- Students will prepare and deliver effective oral presentations.
- Students will demonstrate the ability to understand and describe major theories of communication.
- Students will demonstrate the ability to identify and define the major sub-disciplines in the field of communication.
- Students will demonstrate awareness of ethical dilemmas in the field of communication.
- Students will demonstrate the ability to locate and use credible sources of information on communication topics and issues.
- Students will demonstrate the ability to identify and evaluate the research methods used in a scholarly journal article.
- Students will demonstrate an understanding of the structure of media industries.
- Students will demonstrate the ability to analyze and evaluate media content and impact.
- Students will demonstrate the ability to apply media theories to critique media content.

International Pathway Program
Students should be advised that this is the Extended Plus 4-Semester Pathway option for this program. This pathway includes one or more semesters of Pre-Sessional English (dependent upon student proficiency level and progression in English courses) plus 3 semesters of Extended International Pathway.
The International Pathway Program (IPP) is open to students who need to strengthen their English skills before studying a degree program in the USA. The IPP offers undergraduate students the additional support needed for their first year of university study. Students’ academic, social and personal success are ensured while in the program as they prepare to continue on to their degree.
Each semester students will take a combination of Hartford academic courses (credited) and English courses (non-credit). Course options are dependent upon the required pathway. Once you have reached the required English level, you can progress to your program at the University of Hartford.
