About Bachelor of Science - Integrative Biology

Integrative Biology demonstrates the interconnectedness of biological systems with their surroundings. With integrative biology, students do not merely learn about DNA as it simply exists, but also explore its role in human biological systems and the wider world.

As students in the program, they gain access to a dedicated department of faculty that cares about their success. The department has worked hard to remove barriers for students and intends to continue progressing in this regard, offering flexibility and tailoring the program to meet individual needs. Support for students includes:

Scaffolded learning objectives—The scaffolded learning objectives are designed to help students build upon their skills, ensuring they feel successful as they navigate the curriculum. The focus is on empowering students and removing obstacles in their way—not the other way around.

Learning Assistants who spend time in the classroom—Students in these unique departmental positions are available to answer questions that other students may not feel comfortable asking a professor or faculty member directly. They also assist students in building both their study and social skills, both in and out of the classroom.

Students learn by doing—When they join the program, students build skills and test theories by engaging with the community and investigating real-world biological issues. For instance, students may investigate microbial activity through the City of Aurora's water treatment facilities. They work closely with department faculty in cross-disciplinary efforts to solve real-world problems.
