Recognizing the importance of well-prepared professionals, in 2004 the Oklahoma state legislature established specific requirements for licensed alcohol and drug counselors (LADC). The law mandates a master's degree in alcohol and substance abuse counseling or a master's degree in a behavioral science or counseling-related field that is "content-equivalent" to a graduate degree in alcohol and substance abuse counseling.
