About Master of Arts (Honours) - Scandinavian Studies and Linguistics (RQ61)
The languages and linguistics of the Scandinavian countries have had a significant impact beyond the Nordic region for a long time. This program offers individuals the chance to study Danish, Norwegian, or Swedish while delving into the workings of language.
The combination of Scandinavian Studies and Linguistics is an excellent choice for joint honors. It allows students to study a modern language in its cultural context and explore the expression and creation of meaning. Linguistics courses specifically tailored to language students cover topics such as the speech sounds of languages worldwide, variations in global languages, and the structure and history of languages around the world.
For over 2,500 years, Philosophy has been a fundamental aspect of Western intellectual life. Studying Scandinavian Studies and Philosophy together provides a comprehensive understanding of the contemporary world and sheds light on the past.
In this program, students have the opportunity to develop advanced oral and written language skills in modern Danish, Norwegian, or Swedish while immersing themselves in Scandinavian culture, both past and present.
Prior knowledge of a Scandinavian language is not necessary, as beginner courses are available. By the third year, students will have acquired the necessary skills to spend a year abroad in Denmark, Norway, or Sweden.
