The Mechanical Technician - Industrial Millwright program at Sheridan College prepares students for success by providing hands-on learning on state-of-the-art equipment. This two-year program equips students with the skills needed to excel in the industrial millwright field, including building, installing, maintaining, and repairing complex machinery in factories and production facilities. Students gain practical experience with industry-standard equipment such as rigging, hoisting, welding, CAD, and hydraulics, along with the expertise to analyze and troubleshoot emerging machinery vital to the trades.
The program also focuses on future-proofing students’ skills by covering emerging technologies like robotics, CNC machining, computer-assisted drawing (CAD), programmable logic controllers (PLC), and diagnostics, ensuring graduates stay ahead of industry demands. By mastering advanced computer skills and developing leadership abilities, students are prepared to support employers across the increasingly complex automated manufacturing industry.
Additionally, students have the opportunity to pursue an extra co-op year to earn the required on-the-job experience for the Red Seal Industrial Mechanic Millwright certification, allowing them to enter the workforce as mechanical technician industrial millwrights or advance toward further certifications and apprenticeships.
Graduates leave the program with a comprehensive Ontario College Diploma, ready to embark on their careers with a solid understanding of machine technology, workshop practices, and soft skills highly valued by employers.
