About Master of Science - Public Health - Health Promotion
Develop the theoretical knowledge and practical skills needed to promote and protect public health and wellbeing. Learners will be equipped for a variety of roles in health promotion and public health, working for local authorities, health services or in the voluntary sector.
Led by a committed team of academics and specialists in the field, students will be introduced to the 'social' model of health rather than the predominant 'medical' model, enabling them to focus on how people and communities can be empowered to improve their health and how public policy can create healthier societies. They'll also investigate the psychology of behavior change and how people learn about health. The research strand will enable students to critically appraise evidence and develop research skills.
Leeds Beckett University has been providing specialist postgraduate health promotion training for more than 40 years, and its courses are informed by all the dynamic changes currently taking place in public health in the UK and globally. The University's contacts with practitioners in the public health community are well established, both regionally and nationally.
Students come from a wide variety of backgrounds and countries, giving a chance to share experience, learn from each other and develop collaborative practice. A large number of students have continued their career as public health consultants and health promotion specialists.
LBU's subject-specific librarians will be on hand to direct students to the specialist learning and study-skill resources. They'll also be assigned an academic advisor to give them tailored feedback and support.
The MSc Public Health in Health Promotion students will have the skills to commission, design, plan, implement and evaluate health promotion interventions. LBU graduates are working as health promotion specialists, public health consultants, public health service managers, researchers, lecturers and in a range of other health and wellbeing roles at policy, planning and management levels.
