About 4-Term Pathway - International Foundation Year in Social Sciences and Humanities - Continue to Bachelor of Arts - English Literature and Politics (Study Abroad)

This program will prepare students for entry to Year 1 of an undergraduate degree in a wide range of subjects, including many based at the £10m LICA building. Popular subjects include law, film studies, sociology, linguistics and politics.

Media shapes people, what they think and what they value. At Lancaster, they’ve created a course where expertise meets practical skills. New technology and new platforms mean students will be preparing for careers in the creative sector and digital journalism that didn’t even exist until recently.

Bring Ideas To Life

Lancaster knows it’s important for students to understand the way media is changing, but they also need to be able to apply this knowledge to succeed in this competitive industry. This includes the skills students will learn during their placement year, in which they will work in an organisation potentially related to their interests. And during their studies, students will influence what they create, whether that’s short films, digital content and podcasts, or any media relevant to today’s world.

Students will look at how media is produced and consumed to help them become better creators, as well as studying the social, economic and political dimensions of this industry on a global scale. Students will look at practices and platforms in the ever-changing media landscape to make them aware of the challenges facing professionals.

Research influences real world conversations. Students will be learning from experts who testify for parliamentary enquiries, run their own podcast series, or raise awareness of issues like gender inequality through their work.

When it comes to doing their dissertation, students will follow in their footsteps. They can complete their dissertation either via writing about research they have carried out or via media practice. Either way, they'll be expected to thoroughly research their topic and the intended audience. Students will be encouraged to let their imagination run wild! Past students have created music albums, board games and even a multimedia cookbook.

Placement Year

Sometimes known as a year in industry, the placement year will take place between the second and final year of study and this will extend the degree to four years.
