About 3-Term Pathway - International Foundation Year in Social Sciences and Humanities - Continue to Bachelor of Arts - English Literature and Politics (Study Abroad)

This program will prepare students for entry to Year 1 of an undergraduate degree in a wide range of subjects, including many based at the £10m LICA building. Popular subjects include law, film studies, sociology, linguistics and politics.

Lancaster’s History and Politics degree is taught collaboratively between the Department of History and the Department of Politics, Philosophy and Religion. It gives students the opportunity to develop knowledge, political insight and specialist skills alongside students and scholars who share their passion and interests. Students will be able to select complementary modules from each department. So, for example, in History they may choose to study the political and cultural history of the United States while exploring Government and Politics of the United States in their Politics courses.

Students will begin the degree with core modules including ‘From the Ancient to the Modern: History and Historians’, and ‘Politics in the Modern World’. In the second and third year students will be able to choose from a broad range of options, such as Politics and History of the Middle East; International Relations, Security and Sustainability; Politics of Development and Global Changes; Understanding Key Economic Concepts; Issues in Contemporary Politics and Philosophy. For more details and options, please see the PPR department website.

Placement Year

Sometimes known as a year in industry, the placement year will take place between the second and final year of study and this will extend the degree to four years.
