4-Term Pathway - International Foundation Year in Social Sciences and Humanities - Continue to Bachelor of Arts - Architecture (Study Abroad)

This program will prepare students for entry to Year 1 of an undergraduate degree in a wide range of subjects, including many based at the £10m LICA building. Popular subjects include law, film studies, sociology, linguistics and politics.

Lancaster’s History and International Relations degree is taught jointly between the Department of History and the Department of Politics, Philosophy and Religion. It gives students the opportunity to build an in-depth knowledge of both subjects, learning from scholars in the field.

The degree scheme concentrates on the history of international politics since 1780 and introduces students to various theoretical understandings of the modern world. Students will be given the opportunity to develop a stronger understanding of the influence of History and International Relations on each other, while engaging with topics such as diplomacy, terrorism, religious conflict and human rights.

Beginning with modules including ‘From the Medieval to the Modern: History and Historians’ and ‘Politics in the Modern World’, students will move on to modules such as; ‘Peace Studies in Action, and ‘International Relations, Security and Sustainability’ in the second year. 

Placement Year

Sometimes known as a year in industry, the placement year will take place between the second and final year of study and this will extend the degree to four years.
