This program will prepare students for entry to a postgraduate degree in a wide range of subjects at Lancaster University, including law, design and a world top 10 linguistics program (QS World University Rankings by Subject 2023).

Tailored Studies

How do culture and language influence interactions when traveling, going to the doctor or attending a workplace meeting? Students will explore questions like this and unpick theory in the two core modules ‘Intercultural Communication’ and ‘Intercultural Encounters’. Students will also be able to develop their research skills in the third core module, ‘Research Methods in Linguistics and English Language’.

Beyond these three core modules, students can shape their degree around their particular interests by choosing from an extensive range of optional modules, from cognitive linguistics to second language acquisition. Plus, students can focus on one of their special interests in their dissertation. Previous students have chosen topics as diverse as the representation of linguistic and cultural groups in the media, and how foreign language teachers teach intercultural competence.
