This program will prepare students for entry to a postgraduate degree in a wide range of subjects at Lancaster University, including law, design and a world top 10 linguistics program (QS World University Rankings by Subject 2023).

Understanding Inequality

Gender, sex and bodily discrimination affects all areas of society. During this course students will explore these inequalities and their intersections with areas like race and disability. The expertise developed in this degree will allow students to take a sophisticated approach to contemporary issues facing society.

Students will also join the community at the Centre for Gender Studies. Some of the most highly respected names in feminist literature have been involved with this Centre including Sara Ahmed, Beverley Skeggs, Maureen McNeil, and Imogen Tyler.

Examine Issues of Gender and Inequality in Literature

Alongside gender studies, students will also explore both modern and historical literature, examining voices in inequality across the ages. The department has a particular strength in modern literature, and, an understanding of current changes will be encouraged in how gender is portrayed in literature. However, the course is wide-ranging and, from post-colonial women’s writing, to the works of the Romantics, students will analyse a range of literary forms such as poetry, novels, essays, autobiography and travelogues.
