Program Description
The English department curriculum teaches an understanding of the way the English language functions and how people use it to create and communicate. It teaches all students the fundamental skills needed to succeed in college, at work, and as citizens. As one of the core disciplines in the liberal arts, English fosters critical thinking, leadership ability, and democratic engagement.
Students interested in a BS degree in English need to complete 12 credits in addition to the general education requirements; these credits must be taken in linguistics, natural science, mathematics, social science, or selected courses in kinesiology.
An undergraduate major in English can be a solid basis for the professional study of law, medicine, theology, and business or careers in education, arts management, and publishing.
