The IS1 program is the equivalent of the first year of a four-year Scottish undergraduate degree. This program is designed to help students develop their academic knowledge and skills within their subject area. Participants will also focus on improving their English academic literacy in preparation for continuing onto their chosen undergraduate degree at the University of Dundee.
Students will study the IS1 across two or three terms, depending on their entry qualifications. After successful completion, they will progress directly to Year 2 of their chosen undergraduate degree at the University of Dundee.
Bachelor of Science (Honours) - Pharmacology with a year in industry
The course explores approaches to treatment with a focus on neuroscience, metabolic diseases, and cancer—areas of research strength at Dundee. This provides students with an understanding of how scientists explore biomedical discoveries and develop them from initial innovation to real-world application.
Students will focus on topics such as molecular pharmacology and quantitative pharmacology, examining how drugs behave under various factors.
Gaining an understanding of key theories, from the molecular level to complete body systems and beyond, is essential for comprehending the field as a whole.
In the first two years, students will cover concepts including genetics, cell division, biological organization, and molecular mechanisms and processes.
They will develop practical skills, including laboratory techniques, data analysis, and the design and execution of experiments, which will prepare them for carrying out projects later in the course.
Students will select modules that suit their interests and have the option to transfer to a different life sciences degree if they choose the relevant modules.
The course curriculum is shaped by the work of world-leading researchers to ensure that students are learning the latest advances, while also gaining a solid understanding of the fundamentals of the field. Lab sessions will integrate knowledge and practical skills, as well as help students develop strong transferable skills.
