About 1-Term Pathway - International Incorporated Master's (IIM) - Continue to Master of Science - Civil Engineering with Low Carbon Infrastructure
The Pre-Masters program is designed for students who do not qualify for direct entry to a postgraduate degree at the University of Dundee. This may be due to the grades achieved in their undergraduate degree, their current qualifications not being equivalent to a UK undergraduate degree, or a desire to improve their academic and English language skills.
The Pre-Masters course will equip students with the advanced skills necessary to complete their postgraduate study at the University of Dundee. They can choose to study over one or two terms, depending on their academic qualifications and English language level. The one-term option offers a fast track route to their chosen degree course and is studied over three months. The two-term option is studied over six months and provides additional academic English and subject-related support.
Civil Engineering with Low Carbon Infrastructure
Civil engineering is an engineering discipline that focuses on the design, construction, and maintenance of the infrastructure that constitutes modern society. This includes a wide range of projects such as roads, bridges, buildings, and water supply systems. Low carbon infrastructure refers to systems such as transportation, energy, and buildings designed to reduce carbon emissions and minimize environmental harm.
This course involves the integration of civil engineering principles with a focus on creating sustainable and environmentally friendly infrastructure. The emphasis is on designing, constructing, and managing civil projects with the goal of minimizing carbon emissions and reducing overall environmental impact.
Students will undertake coursework that encompasses sustainable design principles, renewable energy integration, and low carbon materials, equipping them with the knowledge and skills needed to shape the future of infrastructure development.
In Semester 1, students will work on modules specific to low carbon technologies, along with optional or conversion modules. In Semester 2, they will focus on core Civil Engineering modules and any remaining optional or conversion modules. Finally, students will complete an individual research project associated with an aspect of low carbon infrastructure.
Throughout the course, students will have access to dedicated facilities, including laboratories and resources such as the Concrete Technology Unit, Geotechnical Research Laboratories, and the Centrifuge Modelling Facility.
