International Year One - Undergraduate Pathway - General (1-Semester Pathway) Transfer to Bachelor of Science - Middle Level Teacher Education

International Year One is a supportive program that allows students to earn credits towards their degree while receiving additional academic, cultural and language support customized for international students.

Upon successful completion of the Pathway program and meeting university requirements for undergraduate admission, you may enter your next semester of study at Illinois State University.

The Middle Level Teacher Education program at Illinois State prepares individuals for a professional educator’s license to teach young adolescents in grades 5-8. As part of the program requirements, participants will choose two subject areas to focus their studies on. Throughout the coursework, teacher candidates will acquire the professional knowledge and skills necessary to become highly effective educators, along with approximately 350 hours of hands-on classroom experience prior to student teaching.

Middle school teachers facilitate the transition from childhood to young adulthood by assisting their students in exploring subject matter more deeply and gaining a better understanding of themselves and the world around them. By comprehending how adolescents learn, middle level teachers can create engaging educational experiences that foster a love for learning and provide opportunities for growth during a pivotal time in their students' lives.
