About Academic Accelerator Program - Bachelor of Arts - English

Program Description

The Academic Accelerator Program (AAP) is a two-semester program designed specifically for students who are ready to succeed in immersive English-speaking classrooms, while includes the benefit of English-language and student support to help them thrive. The program curriculum offers a balance of university-wide and AAP-exclusive courses, with English-language course supplements that equip students with the practical, subject-specific vocabulary and skills they need to excel in their coursework.

The Department of English is a community of active scholars and writers dedicated to helping students form a deeper sense of themselves and the world. It celebrates the beauty of words and emphasizes the power of language as a path towards that goal. The program seeks to enhance students’ creative, analytical, and practical writing skills, and does so by offering courses that emphasize cultural, historical and theoretical approaches to literature, film, multimodal texts, and the creative process. Through a broad range of courses, the department affirms the importance of creating and carefully understanding all forms of discourse. The department values well-crafted arguments, sophisticated analyses, elegant writing, and thoughtful engagement with research. It helps students hone their critical thinking and writing skills in ways both creative and practical. Students apply these skills in courses and in writing for The Bulletin and other campus publications, tutoring in the Writing Center, and presenting their work at conferences. Graduates from the English Department have gone on to pursue careers in writing, teaching, law, editing, publishing, and the tech sector.
