About Bachelor of Arts - Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies

Women’s, gender and sexuality studies cultivates a critical awareness of the contributions of women and the impact of gender and sexuality in peoples lives, both historically and in the contemporary world. The interdisciplinary scope includes examining these issues from the perspective of politics, anthropology, sociology, psychology, history, philosophy, artistic expression, and literature. The objectives of the program are:

  1. To explore existing knowledge about women, gender, and sexuality across a variety of disciplines
  2. To critically assess the traditional disciplines in the light of new data concerning women, gender and sexuality.
  3. To provide an academic foundation for students planning careers in diverse organizations; companies; and communities; women’s, gender and sexuality studies, or related fields
  4. To promote research about women, gender, and sexuality within existing disciplines

Upon successful completion of this program, students will be able to:

  • Acquire knowledge of historical and contemporary inequities related to sex and gender in societies and cultures, as well as forms of resistance to these inequities
  • Critically analyze and compare culturally-specific constructions of gender and sexuality
  • Critically analyze gender and sexual norms and practices alongside intersecting elements of race, class, sexuality, etc.
  • Develop critical analytical skills about gender- and sexuality-related socio-cultural issues
