Master of Arts - Forensic Linguistics

The MA Forensic Linguistics program provides individuals with the necessary theory and techniques to analyze the use of language in legal contexts, evaluate expert testimony on forensic matters, and consider the role of expertise in legal systems more generally.

The program examines issues of justice, fairness, and equality in law, introducing students to linguistic aspects of the criminal justice system, including policing and the courtroom.

Students will critically analyze the work of expert witnesses and linguistic consultants in the field of language and law. They will also explore the role of linguists within the legal system, examining the impact of linguistics on criminal investigations. Additionally, students will have the opportunity to carry out ethnographic observation of courtroom proceedings at Cardiff Crown Court as part of their core module.
