About Bachelor of Arts (Honours) - Graphic Design
From the moment students arrive at the purpose-built studios, this course develops their individual skills as a graphic designer.
Students will leave with a professional portfolio based on their own interests, an in-depth knowledge of graphic design software and interpersonal skills equipping them to succeed in a competitive industry.
Throughout the course students will put their skills to use by working with practising designers, completing live briefs and entering national competitions. They’ll also get the opportunity to experience business and entrepreneurial aspects of the industry through working with a professional design agency.
Year one introduces students to the fundamental concepts of graphic design. Through multiple studio-based projects in print making, mark-making and software skills, students are encouraged to develop their own creative practice, sense of style, and the joy of design through experimentation and fun. Year two focuses further on self-initiated, collaborative and independent ways of working. For example in Designing With Type students will learn branding, create typographical logos, cards, editorial layouts for newspapers and magazines. In the module ‘The art of the Cover’ students will have the opportunity to fully explore the creative potential of graphic design, photography and illustration to create an image that can sell and move. Students will also get the opportunity to work in a group project with a local deign agency that will set them a brief and act as their mentors. In Year 3, students will move into more independent learning, for example, they will extend study by dissertation or major project where they'll develop their individually negotiated projects and they will prepare for their final degree show.
