About Academic Transitions

Program Description

Academic Transitions (AcT) offers advanced students the opportunity to complete their ESL studies at the same time as they take a credit course toward their undergraduate degree.

AcT students will have 25 hours of academic English language instruction and academic support each week. Students work through an accelerated IELP level five curriculum that emphasizes the following:
  • Critical thinking and reading
  • Researching, referencing and avoiding plagiarism
  • Academic presentations, discussion and debate
  • Development of specialized vocabulary
  • Academic note taking
  • Academic writing

In addition to their ESL classes, AcT students will have optional cultural activities during the evenings and weekends.

Upon successful completion of AcT, students with a conditional acceptance to Brock University will be admitted for January, May or September admission.
