About Master of Engineering (MEng) - Mechanical Engineering (H105)

Program Description

Industry-seasoned academics, practitioners and guest speakers deliver practical training in the state-of-the-art Design & Engineering Innovation Centre, giving students the knowledge and skills required to understand the behaviour, performance and limitations of new technologies, in addition to modelling and simulating the performance of technologies.

As well as giving students a solid grounding in engineering, the course will provide an inspirational insight into emerging technologies within the sector and how to apply them to real-world situations. It also includes a career-affirming minimum 30-week period in a work placement, which will help students make contacts and boost their potential within the profession.

In the final year students will exhibit their project at the annual Festival of Design & Engineering, giving potential employers an insight into how students work could make a difference in the future. Many students’ projects are as a result of industry collaboration resulting from practical issues experienced during their placement year.

Accredited by the Institution of Engineering Designers (IED), this degree fully meets the academic standards of Incorporated Engineer (IEng) and Chartered Engineer (CEng), which means graduates can apply for CEng status after gaining suitable experience in an engineering role. This is an integrated Master’s degree; BU also offers a BEng (Hons) Mechanical Engineering which can be completed in three or four years (including placement).
