Program Description
Whether it’s working on criminal investigations to analyse crime scenes and identify victims, working in the field of endangered species to identify illegal trading of fur and feathers, or investigating diseases that could threaten human or animal survival, Forensic Biologists are in growing demand.
This degree, taught by leading academics, experienced practitioners and a range of professional guest lecturers, will help students develop a comprehensive grounding in forensic biology. To ensure students graduate with a broad set of forensic skills, they will take part in invaluable lab and fieldwork experience, including mock crime scenes and disasters, and they use sophisticated lab and field equipment to collect and analyse biological evidence, write detailed logs and reports, and even collaborate with staff on current forensic research projects.
In years two and three/four (depending on the length of course chosen), students will have the chance to pick from subject modules that suit their own interests, passions, and career goals.
In year three students will complete a five-week or 30-week industry placement, at home or overseas, to strengthen your CV, get to meet contacts from the profession, and improve their chances of gaining employment after they graduate. What’s more, this degree is recognized by the Chartered Society of Forensic Sciences.
