Program Description
This popular BA gives students a solid foundation in the study of human societies, past and present, inspired by a diverse and compelling interdisciplinary curriculum.
Backed by high student satisfaction rates and drawing from BU's established and well-respected archaeological, anthropological and sociological programs, this degree provides a broad-based education with an in-depth understanding of the diversity and richness of contemporary and past human societies across the globe; ultimately bringing together BU's expertise and enthusiasm for all of these subjects in one place.
Alongside specialist theoretical and thematic units, students will get a comprehensive grounding in the practical elements of archaeology and anthropology through working in BU's cutting-edge labs and out in the field. In the second year students will have the opportunity to specialize in social or biological, anthropology or archaeology, or if students would like to take a broader focus, they can continue to study elements of all these disciplines.
The course also includes 5 or 30 weeks in the world of work (depending on the length of degree chosen), which can be complete at home or abroad. It’s a great way to cultivate the experience and contacts students will need to secure work after they graduate. Participation in BU’s renowned field school – the Place Field School – allows students to gain a wide range of practical skills.
90% of BU's final year students are satisfied with the quality of the course and 90% of final year students have said the course is intellectually stimulating.
