The MSc Structural Engineering programme equips students with cutting-edge knowledge and the technical skills essential for modern structural engineering practice. Through a carefully designed curriculum, participants develop expertise in advanced structural analysis, innovative design methodologies, and sustainable engineering solutions.
Delivered by an experienced academic team with over 60 years of civil engineering education experience, the programme benefits from strong connections to industry, ensuring content remains relevant and forward-looking.
Theory is closely integrated with practical application, preparing students to tackle complex engineering challenges in unfamiliar contexts. Participants learn to analyse problems and create sustainable design solutions, all while addressing commercial, legal, and environmental risks. This comprehensive approach ensures graduates are capable of effectively communicating complex engineering concepts to a broad range of stakeholders.
A distinctive feature of the programme is its focus on emerging technologies and current issues in the field of structural engineering. Students learn to develop plans that align with contemporary regulations, and to incorporate principles of environmental sustainability and energy management into their professional practice.
The programme also provides the opportunity for in-depth exploration of specific interests through an individual research project, allowing students to align their academic work with their professional goals and aspirations.
Industry Placement
All students are initially enrolled on the MSc Structural Engineering programme, which includes a research project. However, students may apply to undertake an industrial placement as an alternative to the research project. Placements are subject to availability and awarded on a competitive basis following an application and interview process with the placement provider. Successful candidates will be transferred to the MSc Structural Engineering with Industrial Practice.
