Program Description
What are the organizational challenges presented by shifting markets, ever-changing business models and emerging technologies? Gain a clear understanding of how complex organizations work by choosing a fascinating degree designed to give students a head start in the business world. Whether the student's ambition is to start their own business or become a manager, advisor or business analyst, it’s crucial that they’re equipped with the underpinning knowledge and analytical skills to implement relevant business solutions.
This degree has been created with employability in mind. It prepares students for work by developing the knowledge they need and combines it with the skills required to meet the business and management needs of any organization. By going beyond the classroom and using extra-curricular activities such as international competitions like the IBM Business Challenge, students will be furnished with a greater understanding of the complexities of business management.
Even in the first year, students will be providing national organizations – Guide Dogs for the Blind and the Scottish Blood Transfusion Service, for instance – with solutions to contemporary and real-world business problems. Students are asked to come up with solutions to real business problems set by organizations from a range of business sectors, including food and drink, banking, textiles, and telecoms. Working in small teams, students have to apply their studies to practical problems currently being faced by those businesses, before pitching their solution back to the company.
Students will be expected to actively engage in their studies. Learning at Abertay is not just about passing exams and coursework, but also being immersed in the programme, contributing to the knowledge of others and gaining from them. Abertay also has international partner institutions, from the US to Asia, and all stops in between, where students can study in English for a term or a year. This is an excellent opportunity to boost their CV, as it shows a willingness to experience different cultures and methods of working.
When students graduate with a Business Management degree, they can expect to enter careers in a wide-range of sectors. Graduates from Abertay's business school have enjoyed graduate trainee success in organizations such as BT, while others have gone on to work for household names such as: Rolls Royce, Alliance Trust, Scottish government, NCR, and Atlas Copco.
