Overview

The Latin American Leadership Entrance Award at Fanshawe College offers financial support to international students from Central and South America (excluding Brazil and Colombia) who demonstrate academic excellence and leadership potential. This scholarship aims to encourage talented students to pursue post-secondary education at Fanshawe College by providing a monetary award to help with tuition costs.

Award Details

  • Total awards: 20 scholarships annually
    • 5 scholarships for January intake, each valued at $1,000
    • 10 scholarships for September intake, each valued at $1,000
    • 5 scholarships for May intake, each valued at $1,000
  • Unused awards may be carried forward to the next available term

Eligibility Criteria

To qualify for the Latin American Leadership Entrance Award, applicants must:

  • Be an international student from a Central or South American country, excluding Brazil and Colombia
  • Hold a valid study permit (verification by Fanshawe’s International Office required)
  • Be registered full-time in any post-secondary program at Fanshawe College
  • For undergraduate programs, meet one of the following English proficiency requirements:
    • IELTS (Academic) minimum score of 6.5
    • TOEFL minimum score of 80
    • Duolingo minimum score of 110
    • Successfully completed EAP Pathways with 80% or higher
    • ESL Pathways from partner institutions with a minimum score of 3.2 or equivalent
  • For graduate programs, meet one of the following English proficiency requirements:
    • IELTS (Academic) minimum score of 7.0
    • TOEFL minimum score of 90
    • Duolingo minimum score of 120
    • Successfully completed EAP Pathways with 90% or higher
    • Pathways from partner institutions with a minimum score of 3.3 or equivalent
  • Be in level 1 or first semester with advanced standing at Fanshawe College, with a minimum GPA of 3.0
  • Be registered for level 2 of their program
  • Be enrolled in their first post-secondary program at Fanshawe College

Application and Selection Process

  • Applicants must submit a letter in English by email within two weeks after the 10th day of classes, explaining why they deserve the scholarship
  • Selection is based on the applicant’s letter, English proficiency scores, and Fanshawe College GPA (minimum 3.0)
  • Award recipients are confirmed by the International Centre each semester, subject to fund availability

Award Disbursement

  • The scholarship is awarded upon successful completion of level 1, defined as completing level 1 with a minimum GPA of 2.0 and progressing to level 2
  • Disbursement months:
    • June for January intake recipients
    • February for September intake recipients
    • October for May intake recipients
  • Award is paid by cheque or applied directly to outstanding tuition fees for the current semester
