About Master of Science - Materials Science and Engineering (Non-thesis)

Worcester Polytechnic Institute’s full-time or part-time Master’s in Materials Science provides a comprehensive education across multiple disciplines, focusing on understanding, developing, and enhancing the application of materials at nano, micro, and macro scales.

Through our state-of-the-art laboratories, students apply new materials to existing engineering challenges and explore the fundamental properties of matter across various scientific and engineering domains. If you’re fascinated by how manufacturing processes and environmental factors influence material performance, this program offers numerous opportunities to investigate and innovate.

Students will study the structure, properties, processing, kinetics, thermodynamics, and performance of current materials, as well as develop improved methods for creating new materials for applications in medical devices, healthcare, energy, and nanotechnology. By integrating knowledge from chemistry, physics, biology, and mathematics with principles of mechanical, chemical, and electrical engineering, students will unlock new uses and properties of materials, pushing the boundaries of science and industry.
