The Students want to open pathways ranging from small business opportunities to government employment analyzing financial data, earning a B.S. in accounting is the right choice. Accountants are always in high demand, and Wilkes accounting majors are some of the most sought after students on campus by employers. Those enrolled in the program are taught how to collect, analyze, validate and present data and information about organizations and individuals that accurately reveal their financial position and performance. Students will also develop their leadership, technical, communication and critical-thinking skills, which will be valuable no matter which field they enter.
Accounting is the basis for all business decisions and operations. Wilkes’ accounting majors begin their college experience with a combination of technical and entrepreneurial projects. The experience includes courses in financial, managerial and tax accounting while as well as complex projects that integrate knowledge. Students with this degree may enter careers in public accounting, private accounting, not-for-profit accounting, or in management.
In addition to Wilkes' academically rigorous program, they also emphasize leadership and decision-making through a hands-on process. This is why students are required to complete a formal internship experience.
